I create an oil pastel drawing on cold press watercolor paper. The drawing is done from a still-life set up in the studio. When the drawing is completed, I brush watercolor over the entire drawing. The watercolors are Van Dyke Brown or Raw Sienna. The wax in the pastel resists the watercolor, creating the textured look which is characteristic of this technique. This technique takes practice and patience to perfect, partly because it is so difficult to control and to predict the result.
